Slide deleted notice

I share presentations that I discover on the Internet on SlideShare. I recently received a request from Dave Gray to take down his slides. There are 4 SlideShare users that might want to learn from his slide as they have selected his slide as their favorites. I thought of informing them one by one. I was also thinking is there a better way as other authors might have the same request.

Thinking… thinking… thinking…

Finally I came up with the idea of a slide deleted notice. The notice helps to inform people:
  1. Why the slide is deleted.
  2. Who wants the slide deleted.
  3. Does the people who wants the slide deleted has ground to do so.
  4. Where to go to as an alternative.

Good thinking, I like this. In the past I had the deck or I didn't. They were so expensive to make and a hassle to store so they were in short supply. Now we are digital, so things can be everywhere in an instant.

I think we need to evolve better ways to address issues of privacy and ownership. Your method is sensitive, but still allows people to be informed.

I hope you tag it 'deleted', so the macabre among us can find the decks we may never get to see.

Thanks for your comment. Can you explain what do you mean by "my method is sensitive"?

What I meant was your method is sensitive to the context of the withdrawal of content. Although it is a disused word except around babies, your approach was gentle on the owner of the withdrawn content, while informing the rest of us curious types. What I mean is, you could have gone with thick black text CONTENT WITHDRAWN AT OWNER'S REQUEST instead - not particularly sensitive to the owner's feelings, but equally 'true'.

Thanks for your explanation, Geoff. I feel I should not tag the slide as deleted. I feel when a searcher is searching for Dave's slide, it is better for him or her to reach my page then not. If they reach my page, they are directed to the best sites on Dave's wisdom.
